The Minister of the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (“DCDT”) has extended the comments deadline for the draft policy direction to ICASA on electronic communications networks in South Africa.
The Minister published a draft policy on the rapid deployment of electronic communications networks and facilities on 12 March 2026 (“the Draft Rapid Deployment Implementation Policy”). Its objectives include giving “effect to existing national and sector policy pertaining to access required to and use of land, both public and private, to facilitate the rollout of nationwide affordable high-speed broadband networks.” The Minister afforded stakeholders 30 days from the publication date, to submit comments.
The Minister, earlier today, issued a notice extending the due date for submission to 25 April 2026. You can access a copy of the draft policy on the rapid deployment of electronic communications networks and facilities extension notice here.
